The owner of Pleasure in Pain, Jeff Burt, started his tattoo journey about 17 years ago. He was tattooing in Newport Rhode Island when the news came that it had become legal to tattoo in Massachusetts, and thus Pleasure in Pain was born.
Along with owning the tattoo shop, Jeff also is the owner of Brass Monkey Fabrications, where he custom builds, tunes, and repairs tattoo machines, check it out!
Over the years Jeff has continued to expand his knowledge, learning from some of the best artists in the area.
Although Jeff understands important to be well rounded in all styles of tattooing, his favorite styles to tattoo are American Traditional, and Japanese.
Tara's journey began with an apprenticeship under the tutelage of Jeff Burt, owner of Pleasure in Pain. She was an apprentice of Jeff's for a little over a year, before he decided she was ready to begin her voyage as a tattoo artist. She has since been tattooing on her own for roughly three years. Tara will tackle any challenge thrown her way in the form tattoos. She seems to have the most fun tattooing imagery that is very illustrative, feminine, neotraditional, and playful.
Work does not end when the shop closes. Tara also takes requests for custom illustrations from clients. She can work with almost any medium, but enjoys acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, marker, and graphite most.
Tara graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Illustration from U-Mass Dartmouth. Going through the illustration program has given her a wealth of knowledge on many different art forms, and how to apply them.
Rob wanted to be a tattoo artist for a long time. After seeking multiple professional apprenticeships and not being able to find a spot, he began tattooing on his own. Jeff saw some of his work through a mutual friend and Rob came down to meet with him. Jeff had a good feeling about Rob, took a chance on him, and made him an apprentice. From there Rob says it’s been, “the best decision of his life”.
Rob loves tattooing and anything that comes with it, including being able to challenge himself. He makes sure to educate himself in all facets of tattooing. One of his favorite styles is black and grey realism.
An avid hockey fan, when Robs not here he is either watching his favorite team, the Bruins, or is playing the sport himself. Nothing makes him happier then to be able to tattoo his passion on a client. So if you’re looking to get a Bruins tattoo, Robs your go to guy!
Dana started tattooing in 2008 under Bruce Washburn in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. From then Dana owned, operated, and sold 2 different shops in Vermont. In 2017 and half of 2018 he worked in New Hampshire until meeting Jeff Burt. Dana started working at Pleasure In Pain in October of 2018. Dana is very versatile within his tattooing styles. He enjoys big projects and working with black and grey or color. He can take on new school, realism, traditional, and even though he’s been tattooing for over a decade, he will still take on the small projects as well.
Chelsea is the newest custom artist at Pleasure in Pain. Chelsea began an apprenticeship under Jeff in April of 2016, and a little over a year later, Jeff felt she was ready to begin her tattoo journey on her own, and she completed her apprenticeship. In addition to tattooing, Chelsea is also the shop piercer, so if a piercing is in order, Chelsea is your girl!
Chelsea is a big fan of artwork that is geeky or pop culture related. Her favorite style is full color, neo-traditional tattoos. She also does commissioned black and grey portraits.
Jess is an illustration major at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and will be graduating in 2020. She began drawing at 15 years old. Jess specializes in detailed black and gray illustrations, and will use this expertise in her tattoos, when she transitions into a full-time artist. Her interest in tattoos began after receiving her first tattoo from a friend, who was an apprentice at the time. As with everyone, one tattoo, turns into multiple tattoos. The interest grew, and before long, Jess found herself accepting an apprenticeship. She began working under Jeff Burt at Pleasure in Pain in April of 2018.
